From the Shiki lounge, you can gaze at the brilliantly green garden. After nightfall, lamps reflecting on the surface of the water create a fantastical scene. The lounge is a relaxing space you can use whenever you please.
One of the pillars in the grand lobby, where guests are greeted, displays a Manyoshu poem by Emperor Shomu. Tachibanaya's name is said to have come from this poem.
Have some coffee and seasonal snacks (konjac balls) while gazing out at the garden.
We hand out tourist maps for when you want to go out and explore the onsen town. Feel free to ask the staff for directions to wherever you want to go.
When you step out into the inner garden, seasonal flowers will fill your sight. From spring to the beginning of fall, you will see lush greenery and plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, camellias, Asian skunk-cabbages, irises, lilyturfs, Japanese silverleafs, and many other seasonal flowers blooming. When the fall foliage begins to show, flowering dogwoods, winged spindle-trees, Japanese maples, cherry trees, Japanese spindle-trees, and others shine brightly between the evergreen trees, so you can enjoy beautiful Japanese scenery with each season. Naturally, the garden turns into a snowy landscape in winter. You can also feed the colorful koi and wild ducks from spring through fall.
Along with the Dining Tachibana, which has recently been remodeled for individual guests, there are private banquet rooms for small groups, and even a large banquet hall that can hold up to 320 people.
Here you can find many local specialties, including Atsumi pickled radish and genroku mochi. Besides those, our store also offers accessories, Japanese-patterned tenugui cloth, and other items made by local artists.
Tachibanaya rents out cute yukata for women for free! Feel free to wear them anywhere in the ryokan or garden, but also out on walks along the Atsumi River or to the various foot baths in Atsumi Onsen town.
This tranquil and sacred mountain is home to not only a five-story pagoda designated as a National Treasure, but also the grandest thatched roof shrine building in Japan.
The 2,446 stone steps lined with Japanese cedar trees give the area a sacred feel.
The aquarium is the place to learn about the creatures and culture of Shonai Beach, and has recently reopened as the "Dream House of Jellies." Here, you can see a variety of unique and diverse creatures, with jellyfish as the center of attention.
Great, world-renowned movies were filmed right here in the Shonai region of Yamagata Prefecture.
Experience the worlds of these films on the Studio Sedic Shonai Open Set—the largest outdoor set in Japan—and at the Somaro tea house.
Somaro has been popular as the restaurant Soma-ya since the Edo period. The current wooden main building was built right after the original building had burnt down in the great fire caused by the Shonai Earthquake of 1894. Built around an earthen storehouse that survived the fire, it was designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (Structure) by the national government in November 1996.
Western-style buildings from the Meiji period and multi-story private houses have been transferred here to be preserved. This is a cultural facility with many highlights, including the Shoin-style garden and various important cultural properties.
Enjoy beautiful seasonal landscapes all year round—verdant green, colorful autumn foliage, or snowy—along with the boatman's songs and some superb guiding. Surrounded by greenery, the scenery is truly breathtaking.
Located northwest of Tsuruoka City—a castle town in the Shonai region of Yamagata Prefecture—this temple has many important buildings, including a five-story pagoda. This huge temple, known as the Temple of the Dragon God, has a history stretching back for 1200 years.
The building is a remnant of the Homma family's estate—a long-established family from Sakata City. This museum primarily exhibits gifts from the Tohoku clans which have been passed down through the generations.
Enjoy beautiful landscapes with every season—green summers, falls full of foliage, and snowy winters.
This gravel beach is both clean and peaceful. With a man-made rock pool to one side, it is a great swimming beach where parents with small children can safely have fun in the ocean.
